America - UN oil-for-food chief resigns

Good news from the BBC.

The former head of the United Nations' oil-for-food programme has quit the UN, lashing out at Secretary General Kofi Annan for "sacrificing" him.

Benon Sevan's decision comes a day before a third report on the scandal-plagued programme is published.

It is expected to accuse Mr Sevan of receiving cash in return for allocating Iraqi oil contracts in the mid-1990s.

It's good for two reasons. One, now Sevan no longer has diplomatic immunity and can be arrested and two, he may turn states evidence on Annan in retaliation.

Now if Congress can get their hands on the documents the former Volcker investigator tried to hand over but Volcker blocked, we might see some progress on getting to Mr. Big - Annan himself.
